White Oak:
For centuries, people have used white oak for situations that required strength and durability, such as for shipbuilding, sluice gates, and other exposed constructions.
White oak grows slowly, and the timber has a rough structure with large pores. Unlike most other trees, oak timber becomes harder the faster it grows! White oak is widespread in Europe (European white oak is almost identical to American white oak) and North America, and throughout the world there are more than 200 different species of oak.
